study Habit's

Technology has changed in many ways over the years and as a generation it seems to have a

lot to do with the fact that most of our parenting was done in front of a television screen.

In a study done by the New York times there was a specific case on a seventeen year old bo

named Vishal who was complemented by his teachers on how his intelligence, however although

he has the ability to excel in his classes he received below average grades in most all his classes

except film.

Although it is not so much do to pure laziness but rather the way his attention span is due to

his use of technology. Due to the fact that people today are such multi taskers always on the

computer, watching television, and texting this has an actual affect on there attention span and

their ability to complete one task before moving on.

Facebook, Texting, you tube and many other advances in technology is making negative impact

on youth today.

Many of my friends are obsessed with Facebook and cannot go on there computers without

spending hours online and this has obviously taken a toll on there grades just as it did in the life

of Vishal.

Although I can say that this is not a personal problem I have due to many factors, such as I

do not have internet access at my home, my schedule does not allow me any extra time so the

only problem that interferes with my school work would be my ability to keep my eyes open due

to sleep deprivation.

However despite my reccent use of todays technology I must say that when I feel as though

despite the fact that I am not recently sucked in with I feel as though the fact that I was raised to

sit in front of a t.v has effected my attention span and therefore my study habits.

AHHHHHHHHHHHH!

It’s 2012 and the world has ended!

Or at least it would be if a number of variables where true like if I were for some reason not able to go back to college…

Or if Sarah Palin was elected.

Realizing that regardless either way I would be losing my right to an education I have decided to mentally prepare my back up plan.

First thing I would do is to make the world’s most depressing play list so that I could properly wallow in my own self pity.

After about a month of letting myself go into a deep hole of depression I like to call Sadie in honor of my elementary school bully I would make a new play list.

The next play list would be filled with up lifting pop songs that are known best for their hair brush renditions performed by thirteen year old girls.

Of course at this point I would be on top of the world thanks again Christina Aguilera, I am beautiful no matter what they say!

This being the stage where I get life figured out keeping my shitty job because thanks to my three years of college I know that you take what you can get.

While working I would spend a lot of my time working out and bettering myself image every pay check improving my wardrobe replacing one of my band tee’s and a pair of converse with something a business adult would wear.

Once realizing I have no idea what that would be I would spend my next pay check buying people magazine learning what’s in and watching TLC’s what not to wear.

After learning how to properly apply make-up and how to put on panty hose I would find a job that made me more than minimum wage and I would do it without a college degree.

Yet overall life would continue on and I would figure it out just like I always have but a part of me would never feel as confident or as proud as that stupid piece of paper that cost me 40,000 dollars.

Eat more chicken

Although there is an obvious stigma in today’s society I think there are few restaurants that truly raise the bar.
One of the first restaurants that come to my mind being born in Texas would be Chick-fil-a.
Although it is technically a quick service and or fast food restaurant once you enter the doors you are unable to tell so.
The food is brought right out to your table without any number service or names being called giving a more meaningful and personal interaction.
The tables unlike other fast food restaurants are cleaned right after a guest leaves so that another can enjoy a non sticky table.
Fresh card nations are placed on the table every morning and these flowers much like the smiles on the employees faces fall nothing short of real.
Although the prices are a little higher than say Mc Donald’s you get what you pay for.
With all white meat chicken breast cooked in 100 percent refined peanut oil for possibly the first time in fast food history you can say you know exactly what part of the chicken you are eating.
Not to mention instead of simply deep frying there chicken it is pressure cooked giving showing a little more curt icy for your waistline.
My personal experience with the restaurant has always been a great one and anytime there was any sort of negativity to my service or food preparation it was quickly rectified.
Despite the few variants to the menu one would be surprised how many visits it could take to actually get to try everything being my 500th visit personally I have still yet to try more than 4 entrees.
Reason being you will get so caught up in how amazing the first thing you try is that you will be unable to force yourself to order anything else, thinking that you had found the best possible thing on the menu.
For those out there that like to customize their orders Chick-fil-a is the place for you.
Literally customizing any order as much as there ingredients allow you can for example order your chicken nuggets and or strips grilled to be more healthy or add apple smoked bacon to anything on the menu.
Last but not least the thing that truly separates Chick-fil-a from all other restaurants would be there customized sauces there house sauce chick-fil-a, Polynesian, barbecue, ranch, honey mustard, buffalo and last but not least honey roasted barbecue.
My personal favorite combination being ranch and buffalo mixed but by all means find the sauce combo that’s your favorite because unlike any other stingy quick service restaurant you can have as many as you’d like.
Although for those who are afraid to step outside their love for red meat like there mascots the cow says I would suggest you eat more chicken!

South park

South Park a show produced by Trey Parker is a show that challenges every social structure developed in today’s society.

In doing so the show has found its spot in popular culture. Whether it be in light of criticizing or viewer pleasure it is rare to find a person who has not heard of the show south park.

The show emphasis the relationship of four boys Stan, Kyle, Kenny and Cartman
and throughout their time together on the show with the incorporation of a lot of other characters they display various forms of dark humor.

Making slanderous jokes and showing crude images of almost every social group around South Parks one saving grace may be that they make fun of every social group equally.

Unlike most every other survivor in the status quo South Park producers didn’t take a pre existing idea that was already popular and make it innovative.

Instead the producers of South Park decided to throw caution to the wind and they were successful.

However the show does incorporate other pieces of popular culture such as stars from other shows.

A great example of this would be the appearance of Snookie from Jersey Shore in a recent episode.

This tactic is another among many that get more viewer interaction. Even though a viewer may not like what is seen it still creates hype which creates in turn equivalent verbal advertisement.

This show being a guilty pleasure is not usually admittedly watch by viewers. However there is no sense in denying the show is hilarious for those with a dark sense of humor.

Overall with shows canceling left and right after only one season I believe there is much to be said for the 14 seasons of South Park already produced and aired.

Not to mention the movie that stemmed from the show as well as special segments.

My personal view of South Park is one that I feel relates to many viewers, although I admittedly can’t find myself in a moment without laughter there is an internalized guilt for laughing at something I know hold great offense to other individuals and also mocks lifestyles and beliefs of others.

Regardless of your hesitation to the show I believe it is an important experience to view South Park.

Part of the reason I believe there is an importance to view being that we should all as citizens critically analyze the show while viewing and ask ourselves why this is popular in our culture instead of being a passive viewer.

Most not realizing that what is popular in our society says a lot about us a culture,  Bringing more shame to the fact that like most of my peers I enjoy slanderous humor such as that represented in South Park.

In conclusion I hope that you view the show critically and come up with your own analysis.

VMA= View My Ass Awards

There is no doubt that there is an obvious recipe for success in today’s society and sadly at the top of the list comes sex.

Due to this formulaic trend the role models that children look up to are leading them astray.

Both male and female stars are helping to desensitize children and teens to violence as well as teaching them that a large part of your worth as a human is based on your physical appearance.

A Great example which demonstrates stars actions on the screen having a negative effect on its viewers would be the VMA’s.

Music being an internationally popular outlet bringing people together and creating a common belief system is a very powerful way to get an idea out to community.

The VMA’s being one of many examples as to how this power is used for evil instead of good.

With an obvious recipe for success being Sex, Violence, and …Sex the video’s that have been selected as art lack a lot of things such as clothing.

No doubting that our lady vocalist’s have pipes, however it has come to my attention a female artist has won a VMA award for video of the year the past five years straight.

(Shall we take a look?)
2007

Here to demonstrate the exact difference in male and female music videos is Jay- Z.
   Men
            Step 1:  learn the words
Step 2: Make hand movements while singing
Step 3: Be surrounded by nearly naked women
  Women
           .... Be naked

2008
 Britney spears... enough said

2009

At least Beyonce is straight to the point in her video single ladies not only with the lyric's but also dance moves and outfit choice. Might as well change the lyrics to if you like it then you’re going to have to pay for it, Go capitalism!

2010

2010
Major props go out to Lady Gaga for her Music video bad romance, for she not only teaches us that if the 1 percent of clothing were wearing make us look like were a freak then its art but also abusive relationships are just a bonus.

2011

Props to Katy for one of her few video's where she’s not half naked. Although I must say had she shown a little more skin I think the randomly placed sick child may have been healed? As for the shy girl at the party way to take Katy's burst of inspiration from the fireworks shooting out of her chest and strip down naked at a party that's always a sure way to acceptance.....
This is just one of the many places where woman have been portrayed as sex symbols and the worst part is that the women allow themselves to follow this road to success instead of trying to be innovative and make a change.

Suffering these trends are the youth especially the current generations due to the fact that with the economy the way it is kids are learning most of their information through technology with their parents being absent due to their work schedules.

It is not my mission however to send the message in hopes to end the view of media but instead to ask its viewers to be more interactive with what they are viewing and analyze its true meaning.

Occupy Sac State

With Wall Street starting a phenomena with their occupy Wall Street protest it seems this was the match that lit the fire.
It is crazy enough to turn on the news and hear about what just happened down the street which you live so I found myself in amazement when something that to me was historical was occurring right at my school.
With California state University students outraged with not only the increase of tuition sky rocketing to 3,200 a semester for a full time student it appears that the boiling point has been reached.
Protests are being held state wide at not only my very own CSUS but dozens of other CS schools.
However I believe an untold story in this peaceful war is how they managed to rally up so many troops.
Not far off from our great protestors of the sixties there were no doubt's that the classic flyer approach was taken however the main source was not flyers or word of mouth but social networks.
With Facebook post’s and e-vites being sent out and spread like wild fire the turn the turnout at occupy Sac state was overwhelming for a student protest.
Not to mention the documentation that was provided on sight throughout the whole event.
Post’s on twitter giving the viewers an instantaneous link to the event.
These outlets such as Utube, Twitter, Myspace and Facebook making us a part of the popular culture and letting us not only take from the trends and latest fashions but also create and give back.
An obvious newer approach on getting people to join a cause these social networks have greater powers than most acknowledge.
With petitions and protests being advertised through our social networking sites it gives the public an even stronger bond and makes us all the more powerful.
Issues were being given a voice not only across the state but across the country and even the world.
Social networking devices keeping us at arm’s length with the rest of society which made us a much stronger force as a result.
Our country being founded on the notion that it is society that will rule that the government itself was placed here by the people and for the people.
Creating this notion that no one person is any more powerful than the other but in this cyber world can this statement actual have generated some truth to it?
With nothing before being powerful enough to create bounds among us things are starting to change.
One person standing up against the norm can actually make a difference, all it takes is one post one protest e-vite and thousands of people are discovered who feel the same way and are ready to support the cause.
Fighting to bring back television shows, attempts at overturning Bills, protesting student tuition increase the sky really is the limit.
With this freedom that is not loaded with hidden formalities like most ideals of
Freedom we as people are able to fully put our first amendment rights to not only fight against and rebel but get thousands of followers in the matter of only a night.
Not to mention money being raised for a cause and people being able to advertise businesses without having to pay an arm and a leg.
The power is with the people but only if we stand united the power to create change and now that there is an easier way to bring mass amounts of people together we’re only growing more powerful.

He said she said

Do you ever find yourself helplessly reading all the magazines while in line at the super market?

Drawn in by catch titles like Angelina lost another 15 pounds, thinking how could that woman get any thinner?

Sadly for me I have a boyfriend who constantly ruins my moment of embracing pop culture by saying things like “Nothing in those magazines is true”.

Which lead me to think where do most people get there news? And how trusted is there source?

Turns out most people between the ages of 18-25 consume there news from Comedians like Jon Stewart.

Although this fact is looked at and exploited as negative information, I say more power to you.

With six corporations owning all televised media which is where 96 percent of Americans obtain there news there is obvious motive for not only framing news but also leaving a lot out as well.

These five corporations being Disney owning 16 percent of shares, New Corporation 14 percent, Viacom 18 percent, Time Warner 12 percent, General Electric 13 percent and only 27 percent left to other ownership.

Meaning that 73 percent of televised media is owned by one of these five corporations all with their own personal agendas in mind.

So why not receive news from comedians at least they have less incentive to stretch the truth and even more reason to tell it like it is.

A great example of this would be the show crossfire a once fairly popular news show whose premise was to state the news in a debate like stance.

After they interviewed comedian Ron Stewart on their show it seized to exist at all.

However there was a lot of validity that occurred during the interview which lead to this off air decision to cut the show.

During the interview the host’s of the show directed Jon Stewart with an attacking stance, asking him to justify himself for not asking more hard hitting questions while interviewing John Carey.

Jon Stewart response being that he is not a trusted new site who is supposed to let the people know what is going on in the world; his responsibility is to simply make people laugh.

Although when looking even further into the interview other truths divulge the reasoning behind crossfire’s slanderous attacks at Jon for his questions was due to the fact that he was not asking the same questions every news crew has been asking.

The reasoning behind his decision not to ask this repetitive question was due to the fact that the answer had already been proven that he was in Cambodia.

So instead of speaking on this stirring controversy he instead made a point that it no longer was an issue because it had been proven.

This is not the only time in Media that news has stretched out an issue or even created one just for viewer’s entertainment losing as Jon Stewart stated integrity among viewers.

Many do not challenge the facts being given to us because we have been conditioned to think that our news sources are trusted advisers on what is going on in the world.

However there is clearly many opportunities if not actual corruption occurring in our news sources with obvious loyalties and main purpose of entertainment there is little facts left in our news.

So congratulations to the main percentage of 18-24 year olds although being looked down upon for your selection of news source it appears that yours are the most reliable.
